Independence Day, or better known as the 4th of July is my favorite holiday! There are aspects of America that I am not proud of but this day is about celebrating the classic American hobbies in a summery way. The Fourth of July means BBQing, pool parties, apple pie, drinking, red and blue Jello shots, patriotic trivia and of course fireworks! I get such joy out of baking an apple pie from scratch and preparing for a BBQ. Typically, my friends are indifferent to this holiday so I set the mood with my over the top celebrations. If you say “America” you have to take a Jello shot and before you know it the crowd is happily buzzed!
My love for 4th of July started when I was a kid growing up in a tiny town of 1,300 people. This town threw an annual Fourth of July parade. As a child I looked forward to going to the one big street the parade was on and collecting candy. The parade ended at the park where the fire department then sprayed their hoses down a plastic tarp-covered hill. For hours the kids of our town would enjoy the waterslide, reunited after a month of summer break. The adults would enjoy beer and BBQing in other areas of the park. That night the water slide hill would magically be dry and the entire town would watch fireworks on that very hill. The Fourth of July was the most magical day of the year.
