As an adult living on my own, I started decorating my room in a way that reflected the essence of my soul. This post doesn’t necessarily have to do with LA, though I happened to be living there when the majority of these magical entities came to life. Though this has little to do with travel, it is something I’m proud of. Although I do not currently have a decorated world, these previous spaces did the best job of showing the colors of my soul at that place and time.
I named these spaces based on the energy I picked up in them. The first room was The Vibe, the second The Vortex, then The Volcano, and lastly Venus. Also, two portable rooms (also known as tents) are named Victor and Vertigo. Clearly, I have an affinity for names with the letter ‘V.’
I strongly dislike white walls so once I move into a new place I immediately set out on creating art. I don’t limit myself to two dimensional masterpieces and often things hang down into the room. My soul certainly isn’t prim and proper and likewise my rooms give off an essence of organized chaos. Smoking or drinking wine as the art is made, it is usually quite abstract and creepy. Once the walls are full of trippy things I do hallucinogens in the room to learn what walls drip and which pictures like to pop out and wave. After the trip, everything has a name and I know my room in an intimate way.

The Volcano was one of my favorite rooms. I created this universe when I moved back to LA at 21. It was a tiny box but I managed to squeeze eleven people in at one point. Once I turn my room into a trippy universe, nothing gives me more pride than inviting a friend over for a smoke session. All they have to do is walk into my room to understand my soul on an intimate level. As they get high they can look around my room in wonder as they slowly start to notice more things. The Volcano had lantern lights hanging down from the ceiling. As time passed more things started to hang down like sunglasses, door knobs and a car rear view mirror.

Venus was my most recent world and I lived there until I started this long traveling expedition. Each wall was a different color and had a theme. The orange wall was for spirituality and had a flower of life decal. The pink wall was my photography and art gallery. The blue wall was for travel and the green one had my trinkets from music festivals. There were random door knobs installed on the walls and rope lights and line art hanging from the ceiling.
All of my rooms have had a rope hammock hanging inside of them. Nothing is better than smoking a bowl and then resting in the air as a colorful world drips down around you. Each room has been an “Only Good Vibes” sanctuary.
Having traveled for so long, having my own personal space is one of the things I miss the most. When I go back to the states to work and refill my bank accounts I look forward to creating another magical space!
