Santa Ana is the second biggest city in El Salvador. Many people start or end their El Salvador trip here as it is close to Guatemala and onward transportation can easily be arranged. I didn’t spend long here but I did enjoy checking out the main square and cathedral. There are also some local markets where you can get inexpensive second hand clothes.
Where to Stay
Casa Verde
This is one of the more expensive places I’ve stayed in Central America but it is 100% worth it. A dorm bed was $13 and a private room was $30. However, the facilities were more than worth that price. There is a swimming pool and a rooftop balcony. The kitchen is fully equipped with oil, seasoning and individual storage areas for each guest.
We did not spend long in Santa Ana. I’m sure there is more to be discovered but I’d rather not spend my time in a large city. Mostly we came here to return our car and to stay a night before heading back to Guatemala. A half day is probably enough to walk around and get the feel of the town.
